Course Description: Have you ever had a student react in anger or frustration that took you by surprise? If so, this course is for you! During this self-paced, online course for educators K-12, we will take a journey to help your students as we explore tools that can be used to help you get the best from your students. We will dig into the books, Lost at School, The Power of Our Words, and Defusing Disruptive Behavior as we look at how to use teacher language that helps children learn and how to help our students with behavioral challenges.

How will this workshop initiate a new study or extend work you have begun into the following school year?

Stage 1 - Desired Results: Enduring Understanding(s) & Essentials Question(s): EU: Reinforcing, reminding, and redirecting language helps students learn. Using strategies to defuse disruptive behavior allows teachers to establish the kind of classroom environment necessary to support quality instruction and student learning. Using a plan B approach, teachers can problem-solve with students who have behavioral challenges and lack important thinking skills. EQ: What language can we use to get the best from our students? What strategies can we use to defuse disruptive behavior? What questions can use to problem-solve with students with behavioral challenges?

Stage 1 - Desired Results: Knowledge & Skills Learn how to use reinforcing, reminding, and redirecting language that helps children learn. Learn how to defuse disruptive behavior in the moment and through universals. Learn how to help our students with behavioral challenges through using a Plan B proactive approach.
